       Al Doggett

Al was born in Brooklyn, New York, where his interest in art began at an early age. He developed his drawing, and painting skills with encouragement from teachers, friends, and an aunt who gave him art supplies. At the age of ten, he attended his first art classes at a neighborhood community center, and at the Brooklyn Museum of Art.
At age fourteen, he took an entrance exam, and was accepted into the High School of Art and Design in New York City, where he studied advertising art, illustration, graphic design and photography.

After high school graduation, Al enrolled in advanced classes in illustration, and graphic design at the Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T.) in New York City, with the aim of becoming an illustrator in one of New York's top art studios.

Upon completion of his courses at F.I.T., Al enrolled at the Arts Students League of New York, where he continued to develop his skills in fine art, figure drawing, painting, design and composition for three years.

Upon leaving the Art Students League, Al worked on movie ads and posters for Warner Brother's films, and developed advertising for several agencies in New York City. After achieving his goal of becoming a successful commercial artist, and illustrator, Al decided to move to the Pacific Northwest, where he had relatives. He had visited them several years earlier, and had been inspired by the beauty of the lakes, mountains and overall serenity of the Northwest region.

Al opened Al Doggett Studio in Seattle in 1967, and has served the community for 40 years, providing commissioned paintings, sketches, drawings, commercial art services in illustration, graphic art, fine art photography & photographic retouching.

He counts oils, acrylics, and charcoal among his favorite working media, and identifies Aaron Douglas, Henry O. Tanner, Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent as some of the artists who inspired his interest in exploring fine art.

The Studio employed five staff artists, all of whom Al trained. Having a staff to help run the Studio allowed him more time to pursue his fine art, creating paintings that have appeared in many Northwest art exhibitions.

Although Al has no offspring of his own, children has been a very important part of his life. He has mentored and taken an interest in the growth of youth in the neighborhood, and has depicted them in many of his paintings and drawings. He has given art classes at his studio for children and adults, and has given many art workshops at various schools in the Seattle area.

He considers Seattle home, and is still greatly inspired by the natural splendor, cultural diversity, and many undiscovered wonders the region has yet to reveal. Going forward, Al anticipates the next 40 years, being stimulated by and focused on artistic expressions which illuminate his fine art quality.
